When Choosing A Campground
By Marcella S Meeks

Choosing a campground can be frustrating for some of us because we all want different things and have different expectations although we all have one thing in common: camping. Some of us have pop-up campers, travel trailers (RV’s), and motor homes while others camp the traditional way (tents). But we all have different expectations when it comes to choosing the right campground.

I talked with several people who love to camp and asked them what were the top 3 things that were most important to them when choosing a campground, and this is the response from nine different campers.

1. Dog friendly, Price, Full hook-ups

2. Cheap, clean and not to close to neighbors

3. No kid area, pull through, fire pit

4. Large area between RV’s, read reviews…, level sites, WiFi

5. Kids playground, beach front, spacious campsites

6. Friendly and…

What to pack for a weekend getaway

What to pack for a weekend getaway
By Marcella Simmons

Deciding what to bring along on any outing whether it be for the weekend or the entire week depends on a number of things such as who all will be with you: if you have a baby, young child, teen ager or the like. If you’re going solo, or with a lover, friend or mate who is old enough to pack his or her own belongings, then there’s not much to worry about.
Another thing to consider when packing is where you might be going: if you’re off to the beach, the mountains, camping or just a weekend to a nearby city to take in a show or museum, there a few items that you can take along that makes traveling a little easier. You may also want to bring a book or magazine or two along just in case you get bored while you are away.

Bring along cool, comfortable clothes and walking shoes if you plan to walk around museums or gift shops. My favorite is cool cotton T’s and cotton capri’s worn with comfortable sandals. A light and festive dress with matching sandals might be appropriate for an evening on the town. Be sure to shop for a comfortable swimsuit with spandex for the best comfortable fit.
Be sure to bring along plenty of sunscreen, sun glasses, an extra beach towel or two, a large canvas tote bag to carry your beach items in, a small tote size umbrella just in case you need a bit of shade, an extra pair of inexpensive flip flops in your bag (in case you break a strap!), plenty of pony tail holders or ‘scrunchies’ for your hair, and a small dispenser of disposable hand wipes for fast clean ups – believe me, these come in handy with or without the kids.
When you’re ready to hit the sand, add a couple of bottles of fresh water for drinking to your tote. Bring along the sunscreen and beach items! Don’t overstuff your bag. A granola bar will make for a handy snack while you’re taking in the mid morning sun and scenery before lunch. Don’t forget the hat!

Bring along your camera, an extra battery pack or batteries, extra memory cards and a gallon size box of Ziplock bags for storage of smaller items. This will keep them safe and dry – always store separately form toiletries.
Bring along breath fresheners for between brushing – you never know who you might run into, and a container of delicious smelling body spray for life’s little ’emergency encounters.’

A backpack for the hike in the woods or the country made of water-resistant, coated nylon fabrics is your best bet for carrying stuff for this type of getaway. Always carry a long sleeve shirt, a couple of bottles of water, chewing gum, nuts, beef jerky and perhaps a few granola bars for your hike in the woods or up a mountain. Mosquito repellent and sun block are essential for this type of trip.

Wherever you decide to spend your weekend sounds like fun, and it will be if you bring along everything you need for comfort. It might be a good idea to always carry your cell phone on any outing – signal or not. You never know when you might end up lost in the woods or the mountains – at some point you might find a signal in case you need to call 911. And the best advice yet: always let someone know where you are going and when you will be returning.

6 Helpful Tips for RV Storage
By Shalini Madhav |

If you love your RV and you want to keep it safe, we suggest that you read this article. You will read about RV storage and some tips to prevent it from getting damaged. Given below are a few tips that can help you with this job. Read on to know more.

1. Check the Seals

Make sure you wash and wax the rig prior to placing it in the RV storage. Actually, the role of the wax is to protect the unit from dirt and the UV rays of the sun. Moreover, if you apply a coat of wax, it will be easier for you to storage things after a cleanup. While washing, we suggest that you focus on the roof as well.

Once cleaned, you may want to check the rubber seals, caulking and the silicone seams. If you find anything worn out or cracked, we suggest that you get it repaired.

2. Ventilation

It’s difficult to protect the RV from moisture. As a matter of fact, the moisture may cause musty smells and mold growth when you get your RV back from the storage. The best way of keeping the RV interior dry is to keep the vents of the rooftop open. You can install good vent covers on your roof vents to keep the moisture away.

3. Blinds and Curtains

If you want to prevent mold growth, you can also use the nighttime shades. For instance, you can opt for semi-transparent daytime shades. It’s a good idea to close the curtains. Just make sure you go for only high quality curtains and blinds.

4. Slide Outs

It’s a good idea to keep the slides retracted while storing your RV. With this approach, you will be able to protect the roof, rubber seals, slide toppers and the mechanical parts from the weather. Apart from this, before you put the RV in storage, we suggest that you clean the roof and the rubber seals properly.

5. Bugs and Rodents

To keep bugs and rodents away, make sure you block or screen the external openings. You may want to check the plumbing vents, furnace exhaust and the exterior of the vent and fridge panel, just to name a few.

The best way of keeping them away is by removing nesting materials and food sources. If you don’t keep a supply of food in the area, they won’t be able to survive.

6. Electrical

Once you have put the RV in storage, make sure you switch off the electrical with a switch. This way your battery bank won’t drain fast and you won’t have to replace the battery bank over and over again. Just make sure that the battery is full charged. In winter, a fully charged battery is what you need.

So, if you have been looking for some good RV storage tips, we suggest that you check out the 6 tips given in this article. Hopefully, you will be able to get the most out of your RV storage.
